GAME PREVIEW: Iowa Barnstormers vs Massachusetts Pirates 

DES MOINES, IA- The Massachusetts Pirates (5-1) will make the 1,300-mile trek to Wells Fargo Arena to battle the Iowa Barnstormers (1-5) Saturday, May 11 at 7:05 pm.

Iowa watched its large lead evaporate to a mere two points late in the fourth quarter, but  the Barnstormers defense stood tall when it needed to and they held on to win their first game of the season 55-53.

Led by linebacker Ian McBorrough who finished the game with a team-leading 8.5 total tackles, the Iowa defense made two crucial stops on fourth downs and turned defense into offense. Defensive back Jefferson Fritz recorded his first IFL interception which he returned for a 49-yard touchdown and defensive lineman Tyler Tate also scored on a fumble recovery.

Both wide receiver Darren Wilson and running back Robert Washington had standout games offensively for the Barnstormers. While they may have not had the most yards compared to other games, they accounted for all four of Iowa's offensive touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts will be well rested after having its second bye week of the season, last defeating the Sioux Falls Storm 43-38.

These two teams met at the beginning of April where the then undefeated Pirates won 54-29. The Barnstormers will need to look out for running back Jimmie Robinson who currently sits third in the IFL with 271 yards as well as defensive back Eugene Ford, who notched two of his league-leading four interceptions against Iowa.
