Iowa Barnstormers Roster Recap
DES MOINES – With less than a month remaining until the start of the Indoor Football season, the Iowa Barnstormers have been hard at work to recruit a talented roster. Head Coach Dixie Wooten has announced the signing of 32 players who will be attending the team’s Training Camp.
“I want this year’s team to come to camp focused on flying around, taking great coaching, and learning every day,” said Coach Wooten. “We want the men to buy in to what we are teaching them so we can start the season off on a great note.”
Of the 32 players signed, 8 will be returning from last season’s roster. Among the returning players is First Team All-IFL Selection Brady Roland, one of the league’s top performing receivers who will be joined by fellow veteran wide receiver Ryan Balentine and local wide receiver Lucas Hefty. Offensive Lineman Jayson Palmgren is also making his return for the 2018 season, marking his fifth overall season with the Barnstormers.
On the other side of the ball, defensive back Bryce Enyard will be returning for his second season with the Barnstormers after earning his spot on the roster from the team’s 2017 open tryout. Enyard will be joined by Zach Allen (LB), Keith Jones (DL), and BJ Butler (DL).
The Barnstormers 2018 roster also features a lot of new faces and fresh talent. “Building this year’s roster, the thing I was looking for the most is players who play with a high football IQ,” said Coach Wooten. Getting young players with a high football IQ is important when you only have two weeks of camp to get ready for a season. This is professional football. Everybody has talent, what separates good players from great players is the high IQ.”
New to the Iowa Barnstormers this season will be standout quarterback Drew Powell, kicker Cody Barber, defensive back Jourdan Wickliffe, and offensive lineman Kyle Grome who have all gained experience with the indoor game.
Isame Faciane (OL) is joining the Iowa Barnstormers roster with the goal of making it back to the NFL. Faciane was signed to the Minnesota Vikings practice squad in 2014 where he spent the better part of three seasons. He has also spent time with the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins. Lorenzo Allen (OL) shares the same goal, having earned a spot at the Philadelphia Eagles Rookie Minicamp in 2017.
Rounding up the current roster is a group of athletes who will be entering their first season in the Indoor Football League, including Jamal Tyler (RB), Johnny Duarte (WR), and Jeremy Gloston (DB) who all earned contracts after impressing Coach Wooten at the team’s 2018 Open Tryout. They will be joined by fellow rookies Grant Rohach (QB), Sheldon Augustine (WR), Chaz Barnes (WR), Marcus Peterson (WR), Brandon Sheperd (WR), Donavan Williams (RB), Terrance Boyd, Jr. (OL), Randall Jackson-Clemons (OL), Terry Johnson (LB), Rocky Hayes (DB), Rush Imhotep (DB), Denzel Thompson (DB), Jeremiah Mitchell (DL), Marshall-Lee Mundin (DL), and Francis Nouvi (DL).
“This group of players has already shown that they are very disciplined,” said Coach Wooten. "We send them paperwork, they send it right back. I give them quizzes on the playbook, they get all of the answers correct and ask a lot of great questions. This team will come in dedicated to understanding the game.”
