Barnstormers Name LaRon "Mook" Zimmerman as Assistant Head Coach
Mook Zimmerman Joins Iowa Barnstormers Coaching Staff 

DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers have named LaRon "Mook" Zimmerman as their Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Line Coach, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today.

Zimmerman joins the Iowa Barnstormers organization with experience as a player and a coach. After spending his collegiate career with Ana Marie College, Mook had the opportunity to play arena football professionally in South America before continuing his arena career in the United States for several years.

Turning his attention toward coaching, Mook earned his first opportunity as Head Coach with the Buffalo Lightning, an independent indoor football team, in 2016. In 2017, Mook was named Head Coach of the Richmond Roughriders of the Arena Pro Football league (APF). In his first season with the team, Mook led the Roughriders to an undefeated season and Championship victory earning title as the 2017 APF Coach of the Year. Mook saw similar success in 2018, facing just two losses in the regular season and falling short in the Championship game. Coach Mook stayed with the Roughriders through their transition to the American Arena League (AAL) in 2019, bringing the same winning culture with him. Mook repeated his first year's success, leading his team to a perfect 13-0 record, winning the AAL Championship, and being named the 2019 AAL Coach of the Year.

"The ability to have someone with his knowledge and background who has been a highly successful indoor football head coach is priceless. He's had great success everywhere he has been as a coach, his players rave about him, and I know he had a multitude of options to coach this season. He will bring a contagious energy to our team in 2022."
