DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers of the Indoor Football League (IFL) will host their annual open tryout on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Iowa Events Center Hy-Vee Hall C in Des Moines, Iowa. The tryout is open to any athlete 18 years of age and older who is non-college eligible and interested in playing professional indoor football.
 
The Iowa Barnstormers Open Tryout will be held under the direction of Head Coach Dave Mogensen and Defensive Coordinator Jermaine Hampton. The Open Tryout will be held as a minicamp with a hyper focus on football drills, beginning with warmup individual drills and spending the most time on one-on-one and five-on-five drills. Coaches will be evaluating athletes and taking notes throughout the tryout.
 
"We expect guys to come ready to compete," said Coach Mogensen. "I am sure there will be a lot of great athletes attending so they need to be ready to give great effort."
 
The Iowa Barnstormers coaching staff is looking to continue to build on to an already athletically strong roster ahead of the 2022 season.
 
"We are looking for guys whose athletic ability shines," said Head Coach Mogensen. "The "jump off the screen" type of guy. We also will take note of how guys take to the coaching they receive and how fast they adjust to the verbiage given during the five-on-five portions."
 
The easiest way to catch their attention? Hustle and be focused.
 
The Iowa Barnstormers have guaranteed that a minimum of one athlete will be signed from the Open Tryout, a tradition that has been very successful for the team over the years. The signed athletes will join the 2022 Iowa Barnstormers Training Camp to compete for a spot on the final roster and join the ranks of several former Barnstormers players including Julian Williams (WR), Jeremy Gloston (DB), Jamal Tyler (RB), and Jonathan Duarte (WR).
 
"We absolutely will be signing at least one player from the open tryout," said Coach Mogensen. "I have had great success in my past with open tryout guys, so I am excited to see who we get from here."
 
Check-in and registration will open on December 4 at 10:00 a.m. in Hy-Vee Hall C with the tryout beginning promptly at 11:00 a.m. All tryout participants will be required to submit a registration payment and sign a waiver and release form. Pre-registration will cost $50 with day-of registration fees increasing to $60 per participant. Pre-registration is now open.
