DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers have signed wide receiver Alex Wheat, Jr. to the 2022 roster, Head Coach Dave Mogensen announced today. 

Wheat, Jr. (6-4, 225, Coastal Carolina) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his first season with the team. Collegiately, Wheat, Jr. began his career at Palomar Community College where he earned Second-Team All-Southern Conference honors after tallying 47 receptions for 854 yards and 11 touchdowns in his freshman season. Wheat, Jr. then transferred to Utah State where he spent two years with the Aggies, appearing in nine games. Wheat, Jr. then transferred to Coastal Carolina University to close out his collegiate play.
 
Wheat, Jr. has indoor experience having spent time with the Spokane Shock, Colorado Crush, and Bismarck Bucks.
 
"Alex is a well-traveled receiver with a great frame and skill set," said Head Coach Mogensen. "We expect him to come in and compete for a spot in our receiver core."
 
Wheat, Jr. will enter the Barnstormers Training Camp in the spring.
