GAME PREVIEW: Iowa Barnstormers vs Cedar Rapids Titans
Iowa welcomes the Cedar Rapids Titans to Wells Fargo Arena
DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers (4-8) are home for the second week in a row looking to take on the Cedar Rapids Titans (9-4) for the second time in three weeks. The kickoff is at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday June 4, 2016 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa. Fans will be able to tune in to the game by watching live on IFLLive.tv, listening on WHO Radio 1040 or watching locally on Mediacom MC22.
The Barnstormers are looking to build off of a narrow overtime loss last week to the Sioux Falls Storm (12-1), 50-49. The Barnstormers were led on offense by first year quarterback Travis Partridge. Partridge’s first game in the IFL was nearly flawless completing 20 of 33 pass attempts for 209 yards and five touchdowns. Partridge also lead the Barnstormers in rushing gaining 51 yards on 12 attempts while finding his way into the end zone for another score on the ground. Defensive back Derrick Morgan was a major factor for the Barnstormer defense. Morgan was second on the team in tackles (11), and was able to come away with two interceptions on passes in the end zone in the second half of Friday’s game. The Barnstormers, however, fell just short when a game winning two point conversion was failed in overtime.
The Titans (9-4) are currently enjoying a four game winning streak and are coming off a Week 15 bye after defeating the Barnstormers in Week 14, 46-33. The Titans winning streak is being led on offense by quarterback Dylan Favre over the past two games Favre has completed nearly 60% of his passes for 280 yards and five touchdowns. Favre has also been a force on the ground rushing for 58 yards and two touchdowns. The Tians defense has been led by linebacker Nikolas Sierra. Through the past two games Sierra has recorded 11 tackles including one sack and three tackles for loss. Sierra has also forced his share of turnovers recovering one fumble and intercepting two passes.
Saturday’s matchup between the Barnstormers and the Titans will feature two of the top scoring receivers in the IFL. Barnstormers’ receiver Brady Roland currently ranks fifth in the league in both receiving yards (753) and receiving touchdowns (17). On the other hand Titans’ receiver Jared Elmore is currently second in the IFL in receiving touchdowns (20) and third in receiving yards (783).
The Barnstormers are looking to claim the Iowa Bowl for the first time since the rivalry began. In their last matchup the Titans defeated the Barnstormers in Cedar Rapids at the US Cellular Center, 46-33. This is the second of three Iowa Bowl matchups this season as the Titans will be back in Des Moines to close the season on June 25, 2016.
