GAME PREVIEW: Iowa Barnstormers @ Nebraska Danger
Iowa travels to Nebraska to take on the Danger
DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (3-5) are on the road this week traveling to Grand Island, Nebraska to take on the Danger (5-4). The game kicks off on Friday, April 29 at 7:05 p.m. CDT at the Heartland Events Center. Fans will e able to tune in to the game by watching live on IFLLive.tv or listening on WHO Radio 1040.
In what may have been the most heart pounding game of the year, the Barnstormers (3-5) fell to the Green Bay Blizzard (2-6), 73-72. After an opening possession touchdown by the Blizzard the Barnstormers quickly fired back with a touchdown of their own. An offensive battle began between the two teams resulting in 20 total touchdowns being scored on the night. The Barnstormers' effort was led by quarterback Brion Carnes who made his first start as a Barnstormer. Carnes was near flawless completing 18 of 29 passes, for four touchdowns and adding two more touchdowns on the ground. Barnstormers linebacker Michael Johnson continues to solidify his position as a top IFL defender leading the Barnstormers in tackles (8) including one tackle for loss. The Blizzard were able to score on a play with 0:00 left in the game and complete the two point conversion to take the victory, 73-72.
The Danger (5-4) fell at home last week tot he Sioux Falls Storm (7-1), 62-44. The Storm took the lead early and the Danger were unable to recover falling behind 38-23 at half time. After outscoring the Storm in the third quarter, the Danger lost the lead as the Storm ended the game on a 14-7 run. The Danger offense was highlighted by receiver O.J. Simpson who pulled down eight catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns. The defensive effort was headlined by defensive back ames Ackel who recorded eight tackles and an interception.
This week's matchup between the Iowa Barnstormers and the Nebraska Danger features two of the most versatile players in the IFL. Lucas Hefty, Iowa's 6'4" 240 pound receiver, has been making an impact by stepping into the running back role the last two weeks. Hefty has rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns the past two games and is the third leading receiver for the Barnstormers sitting at second on the team in rushing yards. Danger quarterback Jameel Sewell is reigning IFL MVP and as a dual threat quarterback is third in the IFL in passing yards per game (165.9) and second in the IFL in rushing yards per game (52.3).
This Friday's game has the Barnstormers looking to get back on track after suffering four straight losses. In the most recent matchup between these teams the Barnstormers fell to the Danger, 46-43 at Wells Fargo Arena on April 9, 2016. Next week, the Barnstormers return home on May 7 for a 7:05 p.m. CDT matchup with the Colorado Crush (0-8).
