Iowa Barnstormers Shocked by Sioux Falls Storm

Barnstormers Defeated by Storm, 87-11

Sioux Falls, SD – The Iowa Barnstormers (2-5) were defeated 87-11 by the Sioux Falls Storm (7-0) Saturday evening at the Denny Sanford PREMEIR Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

In the first quarter of the matchup between the Iowa Barnstormers and the Sioux Falls Storm, the Storm proved their status as the top contender and reigning champion of the Indoor Football League.  Plagued by turnovers throughout the night, the Barnstormers gave up the ball on the team’s second possession of the game.  The experienced Storm team took advantage and put an early seven points on the scoreboard.  Kicking up the momentum, the Storm went on to score three more touchdowns.  Meanwhile, the Barnstormers tallied two from an extra point returned by defensive back Matt Goldsmith and three credited to kicker Josh Gable.  Sioux Falls Storm 27, Iowa Barnstormers 5.

Before the end of the half, the Storm doubled their scoreboard count with touchdown after touchdown.  Each missed opportunity by the Barnstormers was picked up by Sioux Falls to increase the home team’s margin.  The Barnstormers continued to struggle finding the end zone against the Storm’s hungry defense.  Another field goal completion was the Barnstormers lone score during the second quarter.  Sioux Falls Storm 54, Iowa Barnstormers 8.

Coming out of the locker room, the Barnstormers would need a second-half rally and huge defensive stops to overturn the Sioux Falls Storm.  With Iowa quarterback Robbie Nallenweg taken out of the game due to injury, the Barnstormers would continue to scramble to find the red zone.  Once more, Gable booted the ball through the uprights for a 3-point field goal.  Collectively, the Storm offense and defense continued to run the field through the end of the game clock.  Sioux Falls 87, Iowa Barnstormers 11.

Scoring for the Barnstormers, Gable completed 3/6 field goal attempts from 25, 26, and 52 yards.

The Iowa Barnstormers and Sioux Falls Storm meet once again next Saturday when the Barnstormers host at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa.
