Week 10 Preview

Iowa Barnstormers vs. Alabama Vipers

Saturday June 5, 2010

Kickoff: 7:05pm

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Field, Wells Fargo Arena (11,209) Des Moines, IA

2010 Record- 3-4 (1-3 at home 2-1 on the road) - Streak: lost 1- Fourth Place, National Conference, Midwest Division

Week 8 Recap:

On a night with a special return to Des Moines from Kurt Warner, the Barnstormers were high and tight with the Arizona Rattles throughout their match-up, but in the end the Rattlers came out on top 52-48. This brings the Barnstormers down to 3-4 on the year.

Arizona came out firing first with a touchdown pass early in the first quarter, but the Barnstormers quickly returned with a Vena to Dodge touchdown reception. Both teams would score twice more in the first half, each missing an extra point opportunity by a missed or blocked kick. After a Barnstormer unsuccessful on-side kick attempt in the final seconds of the first half Arizona was given and opportunity to score, which they took full advantage of and went into halftime in the lead 24-20.

Coming out of halftime the second half continued to be a game of cat and mouse each team scoring touchdowns one after the other with the Barnstormers taking the lead quickly in the fourth quarter on a Vena QB Keeper. Arizona took over their lead for the final time with four minutes left in the fourth quarter and both teams were unable to score on their final two possessions leaving the score with 52-48 in favor of the Rattlers.

Week 10 Preview:

Alabama has been talked about as the team trying to keep up with the big boys all season, be it the market they play in and the team itself. Alabama comes into this game with a record of (4-4) and has proven to be an unpredictable opponent. Alabama has defeated three of their opponents who are in the top five of the mid season coaches poll (Jacksonville #1, Milwaukee #2 and Tulsa #4), while three of their losses on the year come from lower ranked Utah, Oklahoma City and Orlando teams.

The Barnstormers have struggled at home and have proven to be stronger road warriors again this season, but after a bye week last week, many new and/or nagging older injuries that might have been bogging them down before have had extra time to heal and the fresh legs should help them in this match-up.

Barnstormer Player of the Week: (Week 10)

Micah King-LB-#9                   Week 8 Line: 4 tackles, 1 TFL

King has proved to be a major defender this season. Last week may have not been his major standout week, but shows his consistencies each and every game. King has recorded 24 tackles on the year, 1.5 sacks, 2.5 TFLs and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. As a Mac linebacker King has proven himself a threat to the quarterback as he rushes through to make a sack each and every play and teamed up with Brent Curvey the opposing team’s offensive line proves the will be in a tough battle trying to protect their quarterback.
