Barnstormers Earn Iowa Bowl Victory Over Titans
Barnstormers Defeat Titans 59-45
DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (3-1) beat the Cedar Rapids Titans (1-4) 59-45 Saturday night at US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, IA.
At the start of the first quarter the Cedar Rapids Titans Quarterback Jake Medlock found the end zone on a short running play to make the score 6-0. Iowa answered back immediately with Quarterback Drew Powell connected with Wide Receiver Brady Roland on a touchdown pass to take the 7-6 lead. Cedar Rapids kicker Micha Georgetta made a 22-yard field goal shortly after to take a two-point lead. Iowa’s Drew Powell made another touchdown throw to Brady Roland making it 14-9. Titan’s Running back Tyler Thomas punched in a short touchdown run in the closing seconds of the first quarter to take a two-point lead.
At the start of the second quarter Iowa Running back Donavan Williams ran the ball in for a touchdown to make it 21-16. Barnstormer’s Wide Receiver Ryan Balentine scored on a touchdown run on Iowa’s next drive to take a 14 lead. Titan’s Running back Tyler Thomas scored on a short running play to make it 28-23. Iowa’s Donavan Williams found the end zone again to take a 35-23 lead. Titan’s Jake Medlock ran the ball into the end zone himself to make it a five-point game. The first half ended with Barnstormer’s kicker Cody Barber making a 33-yard field goal to make it 38-30.
The third quarter started with Iowa’s Drew Powell tossing a short touchdown pass to Wide Receiver Jonathan Duarte to take a 15-point lead. Later in the quarter Drew Powell found the end zone himself on a Quarterback running play to make the score 52-30. Titan’s Quarterback Jake Medlock connected with Wide Receiver Connor Hollenbeck to cut the lead to a 14-point game after a successful two-point conversion. Iowa’s Donavan Williams marched the ball into the end zone for his third rushing touchdown of the day making it 59-38. Titan’s Quarterback Jake Medlock connected with Wide Receiver Connor Hollenbeck again on a short pass to make the final score 59-45.
The Iowa Barnstormers are back on the road next week as they travel to Grand Island, Nebraska to take on the Nebraska Danger at the Heartland Events Center. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Fans can tune in to the game live on YouTube or listen to the live radio broadcast on WHO 1040 AM.
The Barnstormers will return to Des Moines on Saturday, April 14 to once again face the Nebraska Danger at Wells Fargo Arena.
